Hanau Ka Mele is an original Na Leo TV series celebrating the connection between mele, 'aina, people, and the stories that shape Hawaii.
The inaugural episode features The Lim Family of North Kohala. Through intimate performances and conversations with siblings Sonny Lim, Kumu Lorna Lim, and Kumu Nani Lim-Yap, the film explores a family whose lives have been shaped by music, hula, aloha, and a deep love for 'ohana and Hawaii.
Filmed across North Hawaii, each composition is shared with mana'o about who or what inspired it, revealing how mele carries history, memory, and identity across generations. Descended from Hawaiian royalty, The Lim Family reflects on the legacy of their parents and the traditions they have carried forward – traditions that now flourish through their own children.
